Our Planet Earth - Week 2

A Planet of Many Peoples (cultural studies)

In our cultural studies we experienced the foods and crafts of many lands.  Flags and maps were made daily.  Ms Sylvie taught the kids French and Ms Sarah cooked crepes while they learned about France.  Exploring China was fun as we ate with chopsticks and shared our fortunes that we pried from our cookies.   We built the Great Wall and learned how to write some Chinese.  We were able to put our garden to use as the children prepared an Italian side dish with basil, tomatoes, mozzarella, and bread.  We enjoyed our bruschetta with veggie lasagna.  Our past Geography was so much fun that the children asked to revisit Scotland.  Scones were eaten with lemon curd and sporrans and shields were made.

Our Planet Earth - Week 1

Solar System
The study of this glorious galaxy began this camp session. The children enjoyed learning about the planets in our own Milky Way.  All the children had fun with glitter & glue as we recreated Saturn’s rings and made 3-D models. The Elementary students studied about their orbits and how far they are from the Earth. They did a presentation for the younger students which included the song “The family of the sun.”  Coach Mary lead some Phys Ed fun that was out of this world!  The children became planets and spun on their axis.  Back down on Earth they learned games from various continents.
